The cure doesn’t end when the treatment does.

Today, between 60 and 70% of all children with childhood cancers are cured of their disease. Which means there are now many long-term survivors in need of follow-up care. And which is why Tomorrows Children’s Fund developed Cure and Beyond, a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program designed to help children live life after treatment.

We recognize that while those who’ve conquered cancer no longer wear wigs, fight mouth sores, or exhibit the outward signs of their disease, they are forever changed by their experience battling it. Moreover, we know that depending on age at diagnosis, type of malignancy and the treatment used, these children may face medical, emotional, social and psychological issues as they continue in life. Growth problems. Endocrine abnormalities. Secondary tumors. Cardiac, pulmonary, renal and hepatic dysfunction. Learning disabilities. Fertility issues. Difficulty with career choices and insurability. They’re all challenges that may be encountered by survivors of childhood cancer. And they’re all addressed through Cure and Beyond.

Located in a neutral setting away from the hospital to allow patients to separate from their time spent fighting cancer, this program features a multi-disciplinary team that includes specialists in:

  • Pediatric oncology
  • Clinical nursing
  • Social work
  • Pediatric psychology
  • Child life
  • Education

Together, these caring experts provide regular follow-up assessments of disease status and lifetime monitoring of patient’s medical and psychosocial health. Our aim is to address all aspects of survivors’ health with top-notch, compassionate care. Our hope is that in this way, we can ensure the highest quality of life for children who have already lived through more than most of us.

Tomorrows Children’s Fund is proud to be part of this important service for survivors of pediatric cancer. As more children overcome this once invincible disease, we’ll continue to seek new ways to meet their special needs.
